Cleaning pump strainer

When cleaning the pump strainer, after the pressure on the filter drum is bleed, most the debris runs back toward the pool. Then after filling the basket with hose water and restarting the pump, the debris flows back into the pump strainer. Any tips on how to collect this stuff?

There is not reason to drain the filter or open the air valve. Just take the pump lid off and lift out the basket. If you are quick, then most of the debris should not flow anywhere.

A cheapie minnow dip net is your friend if need be. I keep one hanging on my skimmer basket.

When I shut off the pump there is still ~ 3 psi in the system. It does not seem safe to remove the pump basket under pressure. What am I missing?

Sorry. .... My bad. The gauge was stuck. Lid came off .. No problem.

You got it. Time for a new gauge. The liquid filled from tftestkits.net are very nice and last longer.
