Is It A Leak or Evaporation?

First year with our partial inground/above ground pool. It is a Evolution 18' 52" round pool. We believe we have a leak. We filled the water to the Max on the skimmer line yesterday evening and by morning it is down to the minimum line on the skimmer. That is a 2 inch drop overnight. The pool is covered by a solar blanket and a heavy duty tarp. The outside temp dropped to about 11C, heater was set at 28C. How do we find the leak if it is one?

If you search the forums for "bucket test", you'll find many threads regarding your question. Place a bucket with water on the step at the same level of the pool water. Mark it with a sharpie. It should decrease simultaneously if it's simple evaporation. If the pool water decreases more quickly, then you have a leak.

A two inch drop overnight isn't normal, it sounds like you have a leak. First check around your skimmer and all your hoses to make sure there isn't a leak at one of the connections. Inspect around the perimeter of the pool to see if the ground is wet. If you don't see any holes on the side, put on some goggles, dive down and look for holes on the floor of the liner. Another technique is to add some food coloring to water and squirt a little at the bottom of the pool. You could use a syringe or a wash bottle if you have one.
