Newby Pool Question - Unique Circumstances

Hi folks,

We hope to close on a house with a 40 X 20 pool with diving board. It was a short sale and the sellers are opposed to spending ANY money, which means that the pool has been sitting for a year without care or a running pump. The pool is a deep green.

We don't anticipate closing for another 2-3 weeks, but I'd like to do *something* to start cleaning the pool. To add to this conundrum, it is a second home and although we will be there most weekends, it will not be attended during the week.

Does anybody have suggestions? Can we shock the pool without a running pump? Is their any benefit to trying to get a head start? Any suggestions on the best robot? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Honestly, there isn't much you can do to make things any easier until you have the opportunity to run the pump. You could get a pool leaf rake and clean out any leaves or other debris in the bottom of the pool and get your TF-100 ordered so you are ready to attack it. You might also want to hunt around for the best source of liquid chlorine in the area so you can be prepared.

For a second home, once you get the pool under control, you'll probably want to consider a SWCG so you don't have to add chlorine.

I would buy a good leaf rake and every chance I got I would get what I could off the bottom. Unless you can run the pump and pay close attention to the situation I would not waste any chemicals on it yet.
