Questions About Re-Plumbing

This system is getting old and has minor leaks, needs to be updated so I am going to close the pool and try to tackle this before it gets cold. I needed to replace the backwash hose so I used two old vacuum hoses connected together for this and it seems to work great, I buried it I hope it stays open under pressure of the ground and the north east winters do not affect it.

I connected them using a 1-1/2" OD piece of exhaust pipe I realize it will eventually rust out but that will take a long time using it only for backwash plus it allowed me to tighten the clamps tighter being metal.

Is this piece of flexible hose required between the pump and filter for vibrations?? If so it needs to be replaced it has gotten stiff.

This unit has not worked for years and we just put the chlorine tabs in the skimmer basket so I was going to remove it from the system, should be okay right? I will be trying to close the pool myself this year and the only way I can see to blow out the jet lines is to remove this unit anyway right?

Many years ago the second skimmer line froze and burst so it was disabled and capped off, we have no plans on repairing it as for it has worked fine with one skimmer. When replumbing this I want to just remove this switch valve completely, should be ok right?

Basically this is not my pool I just help an old lady maintain it the best I can, I know it leaks because it does not fully hold prime when you shut it off and there are small drips around the pump and filter. What I would really like to do if they make it large enough is cut all three pipes below ground level and replace it with two pex tubes if it is rated for high pressure, snow, and UV rays. They would reduce the bends and look cleaner with the removal of the chlorinator canister and strainer valve...the pump motor recently started making odd sounds when winding down it needs to be replaced I keep saying it should be enclosed as not to be exposed to sun and rain just a dog house or something with a box fan, run the pump and fan on a timer (she tends to leave it on overnight) she also does not bring the pump/motor inside during the winter and we get snow 3ft of snow sometimes.

The piece of flex above the pump is not required. Yes you can put tablets in skimmer. You can blow out the lines by removing the backwash hose, and put the multiport valve in between positions. Yes you can remove the valve in front of the pump.
