Metal stains in AG vinyl pool...please help.

Has anyone with an above ground pool and well water with metal ever done a successful ascorbic acid treatment? It seems like a revolving door. Get the pool stain free with ascorbic acid..beautiful! Water turns cloudy. Add HTH Metal Control (Is Jacks Magic Pink stuff better?) Let pool sit for 24 hours, start bringing chlorine level up...stains return. Anybody have any ideas? I know that there are plenty of you out there that use well water to fill and top off...I would love to hear from you.

How much Metal Control is needed to keep the metal in check? We use quite a bit and continue to get staining. We have recently lowered our pH from about 7.6 down to about 7.2...I read that this helps. I have ordered a 25K metal trap for top offs out of desperation and hope that will help even a little. Any tips or experiences that you can share would certainly be appreciated.

Losing the hubs interest in BBB method. Staining this bad had not been an issue with tablets in the past 10 years. I just don't know guys....not giving up yet, we understand the relation between tablets and CYA, but if we can't get staining under control...he's out.

I know that this forum tends to get a little silent when metal is involved...yes it is a PITA....but anyone with experience with metal...please chime in.

FC 8.5 (just added bleach, overshot by just a tad, and another quart of HTH Metal Control)

By the way...pool has passed OCLT twice now. No algae. Water is still not real clear but not milky white anymore, definitely can see the bottom step on the ladder and the vac in the bottom of the pool. Would love to have a crystal clear pool like we used to have but that might take a while. (Have used 42 bottles of bleach + a few random bottles since we stared slamming the pool on 7/26/14...we are now done with that and the chlorine is holding fine). If I waited for the water to be crystal clear we would be slamming forever.

If I could, I would fly one of you pool experts out for a few days to see if you could get this pool under control.

8/10/14: Topping off with house water and Metal Trap Filter just prior to 2.3 lbs AA treatment. You can see the metal staining on the bottom of the pool. Also added 20 oz of polyquat 60 and after the AA treatment 1.5 qts of HTH Metal Control

8/11/14 This morning after AA treatment yesterday evening. Water is clear, no clouding right now.

Currently working on adding chlorine VERY SLOWLY...about 24 oz to 48 oz at a time every 1 to 1.5 hours. So far no metal returning. Watching closely. Added another 16 oz HTH Metal Control for good measure. Chlorine is registering but only at about FC = 2 so far. Using HTH Metal Control right now and waiting for my case of Metal Magic from the nice folks at Poolgeek.com

Update: 5:30 pm - Water clear for the most part, might be a little less clear than this morning. No staining.
FC 4.5 (just added another 24 oz of 8.25% bleach after this reading to hopefully get it up to at least 5 for overnight, and 4 oz Metal Control so total 20 oz Metal Control today)
CC 0.5ish
CYA 50
TA 150
CH 250
pH 7.2 (Started at 7.0)

To here: This hopefully ends my struggle with this pool for the rest of the season. AA treatment got rid of the metal stains and as of this writing, they have not returned. We even installed our new steps (better circulation than the old steps) using the great PVC pipe weight method to weight it down in the pool...no sand!

This is our pool in the summer of 2015 after the disaster of mustard algae and out-of-control metal issues in 2014. It took us a full summer to get it under control but here we are today. We won the battle! Whew! We switched to a cartridge filter from sand filter this year and we just love it!

May 2017. New liner and crystal clear water. Easiest start-up ever using city water (bulk water delivery). Very expensive option but we have avoided the metal fiasco for now.
