pH adjustment - Citric Acid

Hi all,

I am new to this site and am looking for some expertise from anyone who may be able to shed some light...

The current local swimming pool uses sodium hypochlorite and UV for its main sanitisation however the incoming water supply is between 8 and 8.5 pH.

Can anyone see an issue with using citric acid as a pH decrease chemical?

Will it react with any other chemicals or create a build up over time?

Welcome to TFP!!!

Citric acid reacts with and mutually destroys chlorine. It is usually best to use muriatic acid for lowering the pH.

The local pool really does not want to use muriatic acid or CO2. Is there any other safe method?

Thanks, Is there a liquid from of sodium bisulfate? Whatis the best way to add this?

The build up of sulfates is also not good and generally that is not the best product to use. Plus I think it is usually solid and must then be pre-dissolved and added to the pool.

Muriatic acid is the best product.
