stripped drain cap plug on Pentair cartridge filter

The plastic drain cap plug on my CCP320 filter is way too difficult to reach and remove.
Also, mine survived four removals before the plastic nut stripped and it impossible to grip and remove.

Before investing $35 in a new flimsy plastic one, I thought I'd poll the forum to see if anyone has invented a replacement that is either accessible or metal or both.

I have a Hayward cartridge filter but I believe you can replace the cap with a 3/4" spigot valve for ease of draining...

I'm pretty sure a standard 1.5 inch threaded plug from home depot or Lowe's will work. You may need a little Teflon thread tape. A $3 fix.
