    Test kits

We are nearing the end of our pool build so I'm starting to think about water testing. The PB includes a Taylor K-2005 test kit but in pool school it recommends the Taylor K-2006 kit. What is the difference? Is the K-2005 a good kit?

    Re: Test kits

The Taylor K-2005 is a good kit in every way but one. The K-2005 includes the DPD chlorine test, which only measures FC and CC levels up to 5 (or 10). The K-2006 includes the FAS-DPD chlorine test, which measures FC and CC levels up to 50.

If you are getting a K-2005 included, all you need to do is add on a FAS-DPD chlorine test. TF Test Kits sells the FAS-DPD test individually, as do a number of other vendors.

Per instructions 5217 for Taylor FAS-DPD Chlorine Drop Test (1 drop= 0.2 or 0.5 ppm) you need:

    R-0003 DPD Reagent #3
    R-0870 DPD powder

The K-2005 should contain the sample tube and reagent #3, the instructions you can get from Taylor

if you add R-0870 and R-0871 you should be all set.

Thanks for the information. I've never owned or maintained a pool before so I'm really nervious. But I'm sure I can do it with help from all the knowledgeable and friendly people on TFP.

The K-2005 does not have the sample tube but you can use the pH/TA/CH tube for this test. However, the FAS-DPD test might cause it to get some slight discoloration over time.
