Hole under liner in shallow end.

Our pool was finished last September, we already have a fairly large hole that formed under the floor of our shallow end. It's about 8" long and about 4" wide. There's also a smaller one starting near the steps in the shallow. What would cause these holes to form? We have a vinyl liner pool, is it water getting under the pool washing away the ground somehow?

If the area in question feels soft it usually indicates a leak in the liner. Not saying that's the case here, but it sounds like water is getting under the liner somehow, so you might want to have it checked.
