Western Pa.
do you set it to a temperature and leave it. Or do you just turn on when you think you might want to swim? We have been turning it on when we feel we will be using the pool. Of course with the Western Pa weather, we can have it on for 6 hours in the hopes of swimming in the evening and then a thunder storm whips up and all that gas was wasted. I wondered if it would be more efficient to set the temperature and let it keep it there. Would that use more gas?

We have have a gas well on our property so it doesn't cost us anything, but we still try to be resourceful with it.

Pretty sure you would use more gas if you try to maintain it at a higher temperature, especially if you do not use a cover. But, if having to wait so long is preventing from enjoying the pool and given the price of your gas .... :D

You could always compromise and keep the temp just high enough so it only takes an hour or two to reach your desired temperature. If you are using it everyday, though, then keeping it at swimming temperature makes sense.
