Strange Problem with Pentair WFE-28 Duel Speed 2Hp Won't start on High only

Hi everyone,

I have a 2.5 year old Pentair 2 speed wisperflo 2hp pump. I noticed it stopped working a week ago and I thought it just overheated. I took the motor apart from the housing and visually inspected it there motor spins great with out any noticeable issues. I then turned the motor on for a second on low and it turned on fine, but if I turn it on high it just hums and then stops?

Any suggestions?

Probably a bad capacitor. If you run it on low and then immediately switch it to high (without turning off first), does it continue to run?

Could also be a dirty centrifugal switch contact.

Yes! It does run on high if I start it on low first. What does that mean? Thank you.

That means it is probably a bad capacitor.

Sounds like it. If you have a Grainger nearby, take the capacitor off and it bring it in. They have a large selection.
