I read Ted's very informative article on DE Filter maintanace. My Pentair 60 FNS seems to be clogged. I tried the soaking method and it helps but no great. I have a high usage pool and I wonder if all the sunscreen that everyone uses today is clogging the filter? My real question at the moment is, if I need 6 lbs of DE according to manufacturer, when I now start with a somewhat clogged filter, do I start with 4-5 lbs instead?

If you use 6 lbs of DE after opening up and throughly cleaning out your filter, you should use 80% of that, or roughly 5 lbs, when recharging after a backwash.
even though there is probably a coating of some sort on the grid? Since it is not working at optimum filtration?
