Alkalinity high?

Last week, I had high alkalinity and high pH. I tested both today after my daughter complained that her eyes were burning and found the pH to be at 7.6 and the alkalinity was 200. I hve never had to knowingly adjust the alkalinity so not sure what to do here and am short on time to research it a long time. Anyone able to offer some help here? What raises alkalinity anyway? Thanks!

Here is a good article on lowering your TA level.

A PH of 7.6 is just fine. And neither PH at 7.6 or TA at 200 would cause eyes to burn. Usually eyes burning is from CC being above 0.5 or PH below 7.2.

Burning eyes are usually from Combined chlorine,especially if the pH is 7.6 . To lower TA see the article in pool school

Posting a FULL set of test results would be most helpful.

thanks for the quick response! So, as I read that article, I shouldn't do anything to my alkalinity level unless I am having a problem (which I am not)?

IF your pH is staying stable (which it probably isn't with a TA of 200 ppm) then don't worry about it. However, if you are finding that your pH rises quickly then lower the TA.
