Skimmer Question

I have noticed that the skimmer suction isn't very powerful. Is there a way to divert from the main drain and increase the skimmer action? Here is a photo of how it is set up now. How should I position the handle to divert more suction to the skimmer and away from the main drain. Thanks in advance for any help!

What does the valve say opposite the handle? Closed?
Right now you have the drain and skimmer fully open. Turn the handle 180 degrees and the drain will be closed with all suction through the skimmer. Unfortunately, this valve was not installed in the ideal orientation with the pipe to the pump in the middle port which allows better mixing.

Yes, "Closed" is opposite the handle.

So if there isn't a way to split is 70/30 or so, is it best to leave the drain closed most of the time?

Put the handle at about the 2 o'clock to 2:30 position and that will have the floor mostly closed and hopefully the skimmer mostly open.
