Virginia Beach, VA
Our install started today with the initial dig. The pool is a Viking Fiberglass Venice model (40'x16' w/ 8 1/2' deep end). Here are some shots (my photo skills are very basic) . . .

Here you can see most of the backyard with the pool layout prepped (faint blue lines) and marked. The tree inside the pool boundary was moved to a far corner of the yard. You can see the back of a church in the background. The pastor is very nice and offered to let us access our yard through theirs, as long as we fixed any tracks which get made. This will help later when the pool shell comes in as the truck can back right up to the hole. I have to admit, it would have been kind of neat to see it craned over the house . . . ;)

The excavation begins. Virginia Beach is notorious for groundwater, and we hit it! They also discovered some very, very old underground pipes cutting through the yard which were not on any survey or plot maps. These were hexagonal shaped and made of a red clay/terracotta. You can see a grayish area on the far side of the pool where they existed.

Here you can see the progress on the dig.

About 5 minutes after the previous picture was taken, the far end wall sloughed off. The excavator had to pull away quickly, and unfortunately drove across a couple feet of my neighbors yard.

Too much rain the night before the pool arrived, meant it had to be craned in to position. The ground was too wet and soft for the truck to deliver through the backyard, so . . . .

We heard the escort sirens before we saw the truck. When they finally got in to our subdivision, it started to get exciting . . .

. . . yes, my heart was in my throat through the entire lift . . .

. . . but everything fit well . . .

. . . and now we on to the final stages . . .
