I have an Intex 12'x30" above ground pool and just ordered a new pump and SWG for it. Do I need to, or should I, drain the current chlorinated water and start over with fresh water for the salt/SWG?

No, you don't. Add the recommended amount of salt and CYA per instructions for SWG after hook up and let'er rip!
As Casey said, no need. The chemistry is the same, you will just run higher salt levels and CYA levels.
Make sure you read the "Vinyl with SWG" recommended levels, you can start adjusting those levels now if you would like.
