life expectancy of pump and filter

There are lots of variables involved such as, exposure to weather, quality of water, where it is stored. Then there are two sections of the pump, the wet end and the motor. Motors normally need replacement before the wet end. Five to ten years is not unheard of for the motor to last. Most people replace the whole pump when they only need to replace the motor. You can put a two speed motor on a pump that originally came with a single speed (or even a VSM) to save energy.
