Gunite chips on pool steps

This just happened today. I swept my pool this morning and walking by it this after noon I noticed two areas where the plaster had popped loose. Is this something to expect from a 27 year old pool? Is it time to start thinking about a re-surface job?

If your pool surface is 27 years old, you are doing amazingly well. That damage is very minor for an older pool, at least for now. It will get worse over time. At some point fairly soon, but not necessarily this year, you will want to resurface the pool.
