white build up on the metal brackets that hold the plates?

What if there is white build up on the metal brackets that hold the plates? No build up on the 3 plates themselves, but rather on the metal brackets that hold them and space them - I know it's probably not ideal but does this require cleaning to keep these sparkling clean all the time or should I just watch for build up on the actual plates? THANKS
