I have a 2 year old hayward super pump and noticed that it is leaking where the motor abuts the motor mounting plate. Upon inspection I notice the motor mounting plate has approx. 3/16" hole in the lower face portion that allows water to flow onto the face of the motor. Is this flow necessary to help cool the shaft where the slinger is located? The leak is at the lower point of the motor/motor mounting plate meeting.

Hi, welcome to TFP! Can you post a picture of the problem area? It sounds like you may need to replace the shaft seal but I should have a better idea if that is the problem when I can see the picture.
