Sand filter sand

Is pool sand always white? We had a friend tell us that if it's not white, it's really probably play sand and not really pool sand. I saw a picture of HTH pool sand, and it was beige, not white.

Anybody have any preferences for pool sand brands?

I have not seen white sand used as filter sand. The size of the grain is more important than the color. Pool filter sand should be 20 silica sand.

No pool sand is not always white. Pool filter sand has to meet requirements however color isn't one of them.

The brand of pool filter sand I went with is not white and it works just like it should.
