Saw the site while looking for new construction gunite pool answers and thought it might be a great place to ask a question.
I notice that the waterline tiles were installed directly on the gunite and before the pool has been plastered. I am concerned that it will leak between the plaster (that stops under the tile) and skimmer because the subcontractor did not pretreat or add any waterproof material before setting the tiles on the gunite.
Is this a normal practice in construction? It seems to me that the gunite / thinset is not a waterproof material (but the plaster is -- but there is no plaster at the back of the waterline tiles and skimmer -- so what would prevent water leaking pass the tile, thinset, and gunite if only the plaster is the water barrier.
