Reading the calculator

My pool is cloudy. I don't even know where to start. It looks like i have no chlorine. What do I need to do with the readings below?


FC - free chlorine 0 ppm
CC = Combined Chloramines 0
TC= total chlorine 0
PH 7.2
TA - Total alkalinty 110
CH - calcium hardness 150 ppm
CYA - 100

What test kit are you using?

Likely the first step should be replacing water to lower the CYA to a manageable level. But you need to be careful how much you drain depending on ground water levels.

Then get some chlorine in the pool. What does the water look like?

I understand that part. I just drained half and re-filled it because CYA was like 140. What would be the next step? Just curious

Can I not drain the pool and balance the other levels? Ill drain it in a couple of weeks. I just don't want to deal with it right now.

What does the water look like?

If clear, you need to maintain the FC above 7ppm all times.

If not clear, you need to SLAM at a FC of 39ppm.

It's really cloudy. I guess Ill SLAM?

Are you sure the CYA is not above 100? Trying to SLAM with the CYA that high is not a good idea.

I'm pretty sure cya is around 100 to maybe 90. I would just hate to drain the pool again. I'm going on vacation tomorrow for a week.

Well then there is no point on doing anything. You can not SLAM the pool in a day. Start over when you get back.

Although your CH is too low and could with the low pH, is not good for your plaster.
