I did what you said and just put the stabilizer straight into the skimmer, no sock, slowly and it worked perfectly!! No more hanging a sock from the rope in the pool...Thanks

Glad to hear it worked for you. It's how I tell my customer's to do it (AND how I do it in my own pool). Sorry I didn't get back to answer this sooner but I was away on vacation when you posted this and did not have access to a computer for 12 days.

I think the sock trick was for, if you though you would be backwashing within a week
of adding the CYA.

It can be useful but you will still lose CYA when you backwash since it will disperse from the sock in a matter of a few hours to a day and it still takes a week to fully dissolve in most cases so where does it end up? In the filter!
