Hello, I am going against my better judgement and setting up a Intex 18x9 Ultra this week. I will be leveling the area with 1 1/2 tons of mason sand and it should be ready by this weekend. I originally was thinking to over engineer the pad by making a ''box' out of treated lumber to fill with sand but seeing the posts of those with similar pools I don't think its worth the added expense and work. I plan to use patio blocks under the legs to displace the weight and do most of the leveling. I had a small ring type pool last year and my family really enjoyed it but I found the chemicals a bigger chore than I thought. Any thoughts on salt systems?

Welcome to TFP!!!You should not use sand to "build-up" to make a level area. You need to dig down the high side and then maybe use a couple inches of sand for smoothing and feel.
I like salt systems.
If you get the Intex salt system be aware that their newer models tend to have copper bars that you will probably want to remove to avoid having kids with green hair.
