Pentair Minimax NT E04

This morning I got an E04 code. The fan won't engage at all.

I removed the panels, the fan motor is very very hot but does not operate.

It takes a couple of minutes before the E04 code re-appears after each time that I reset the power switch.

How do I know that this is only a bad fan motor and not something else?

Pull the motor and see if the squirrel cage is still intact or all rusted. If it is in good shape and spins freely, then I would suspect the run/start capacitor.
