How do I remove these eyeballs

If memory serves me right they had two tabs where you would loosen the adjust and tighten back up. Same style was at our last pool when we had it replastered they installed. As you can see tabs are broken

There are two notches on the inner dark gray ring that allow you to turn the ring and release the eyeball. It takes a special tool to do that, or a great deal of care. From the photo it looks like the notches are fairly banged up, like someone has been prying at them with a screwdriver.

The notches are where the tabs use to be and broke off when trying to loosen them. I could find a make for the eyeball to see if what can be done once the tabs break off.
