Shocking my pool, do I adjust PH while shocking?UPdate jul14

Re: Shocking my pool, do I adjust PH while shocking?

In the future if you know you are going to be shocking at high levels, above 20+ ppm FC for example, you can lower the pH in advance, say to 7.2. Otherwise, don't worry about it. The pH does rise when the chlorine is added and the FC gets high and then it drops back down as the chlorine gets used up.

I had a small algae bloom. My CL is now holding overnight within 1ppm.
I have not had the solar cover on since the bloom.
Is it save to put the cover back on? The cover looks clean but I worry
about transfering algea from the cover. I have it drying out on chairs and
a step ladder. thanks

If you want to play it safe, raise the FC to the higher end of the range you usually deal with before putting on the cover -- say an FC around 15% of the CYA level. Then check the pool each day to see how it's doing and if it is reasonably holding FC. I don't think you're going to have a problem, but this will help make sure you don't. If the chlorine is holding and the water remains clear, then you've killed all the algae and haven't introduced any more of any significance.
