my pool was left untouched for 2-3 years I opened it went through the SLAM process. it now holds FC overnight and the water is pretty clear but I have a significant amount of white flakes in the water. I dropped the ph thinking the flakes were calcium deposits but no luck so far. there is also a gritty substance on the pool walls

When TA and pH are off, you can get calcium scaling. I suggest getting that TA down to 70.

Richard will probably chime in soon, he's the calcium expert.

I raise the ph to 7.2 but the ta is at 180.

either it went up or I tested it wrong the first time.

Sure. Lots of people have higher TA than that in the water they drink and bathe in.
