Solar Heater

We finally finished setting up our new Intex Ultra Frame 14'x42" pool this past weekend. Our backyard is completely shaded except for two hours in the afternoon. Needless to say the water is a freezing 68 degrees with very little hope of warming up soon. The gentleman at our local pool store suggested a solar heater that we could place several feet away from the pool where it would be in direct sunlight all day. Unfortunately, they were out of stock, but it cost about $140. How well do solar heaters work? We are completely tapped out financially at this point due to some changes that had to be made so we need something effective and at a reasonable price.

Sun shines on the panel, heating it up. You run water through the panel to carry that heat to the pool. Many people mount the panels on a south facing roof, but simply lying them on the ground is very workable if you have an appropriate spot. It is very nice to get a diverter valve so you can control how much water goes to the panels and how much god straight to the pool, though it is not required if you have a small pump (likely given your small pool).
