I have a push pull valve on pac fab filter , was told to vacumn on backwash by pool store , but when I turn to filter setting all the debri goes back into the pool , should I be vacumning on filter or backwash setting ? thank you

when I backwash the water comes out clean but I know filter water must be extremly dirty from all the dead algea etc' I vacumned on backwash cycle so to clean filter sand do I need to remove top & claen sand manually with garden hose untill water runs over top clear & I'm sure sand is clean all through or is there another way , I don't want is going back into pool again with a push pull valve vacumning on backwash , Thank you
When you first start backwashing it is common for the water to come our clean. After roughly 20 seconds it should get dirty, and you continue running the pump until it turns clean after that.
Also, if you have a two speed, or variable speed, pump it should be run on high (or at least fairly high) speed when backwashing.

I took top off filter & cleaned sand with garden hose , then I backwashed 3 minutes , water was clear the whole time so I set to filter & some debri went into pool for a few misutes then cleared so now I'm funning filter & will vacumn on filter setting for now on . This is a fantastic site & I learned so much from reading forum post & answers . Thanks so much
