Pool green and cloudy

I am new to trouble free. My neighbor turned me on to this site and is very satisfied.

My pool is a light green, cloudy after dumping 5 gal. of shock in the pool,

My last readings were 3 for both free avail and total chlorine, PH 7.6, Tot Alk 100, 0 CYA, 200 Hardness

I have a 33,000 vinyl pool with a heater. Never had this issue before. No nitrate concern.

Before I make another trip to the pool store. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Welcome!

If your neighbor is a TFP adherant, ask him/her to doublecheck your CYA reading.

If those are his/her readings, then it's fairly simple, though time-consuming. Add CYA granules to get to 30 in a sock set in the skimmer, and start the SLAM process.

If it's eating chlorine like nobody's business and you had stabilizer on the water last year, then you may be one of the unfortunates who had it breakdown into ammonia. The cure is more bleach.

See how these people did it and decide if you're willing to invest in the test kit and the time.
