Loose plaster chunks and red tape in light niche. Problem?

Hi all! It's been a while since I poked my head up here.

I pulled out my light for the first time, and I noticed what looks like chunks of loose plaster and pieces of red duct tape sitting in the niche.

Also, the niche was rough with plaster around the inside surfaces (I guess I though it would be smooth on the inside).

Is this something to worry about? My fear is that this was a patch that was cobbled in there and now that I disturbed it it will start leaking.

Most likely just remnants from the original plaster job.
You can use some food coloring to see if it seeps through where the plaster/tape was.
