When I had my electrician out to do a safety inspection on our pool wiring, they told me a horror story about someone using an aluminum pole to clean their pool and hit a non GFI light and zapped someone in the pool. He made sure all of our electrical sources near the pool are GFI, but just for another layer of protection has anyone ever used a fiberglass pole for this very reason?

No, but refineries and chemical plants, and other industrial work sites require FG ladders specifically for this reason.

FG poles are rigid, and they exist to be a better tool, not a safety measure for people swimming.

Bottom line is this. If there is even a slight risk of something happening, wait until everyone is out of the pool. Period.
