I'd been searching threads looking how to install shut off valves on my filter and return.
Seems like everybody went the way of hard plumbing everything.
I thought I'd do a cheap and easy way.
Maybe one day I'll hard plumb, but these are pretty nice for me, I love em already.
Took me about an hour and only 18 dollars!!

I need to do this! I'm not so hard pressed to go with all PVC. Looks good!

Yes I just remove the skimmer bottom 1 1/2 threaded pipe and put it on the opposite end of the shut off valve, I then put a 2 inch male to male connetion back into the skimmer part and screwed it back in. I did use teflon tape and silicone. My parts list was 4 items.

2 1 1/2 shut off valves
2 2 inch 1 1/2 male to male connectors.

You should be able to find them at any good PVC outlet. Like a sprinkler supply house. Online I would think they would be fairly easy to locate. You migh PM this poster to ask them for a faster response.

Shutoff valves are great!! Just installed some on mine this year and hard piped it with quick disconnect unions.
