Opened the pool and found a black ring around everything at water level. The stains were mild last year and easily removed with Magic Eraser but after sitting all winter the stains are pretty bad. What could be causing this and can it be prevented?

No. I have a auto cleaner but it only does the bottom.
No feeders just use bleach, muratic acid and cya.

I'm guessing it's some kind of staining from environmental factors like pollution. Here around Chicago we get it too, but the Eraser usually takes care of it... I asked about the ionizer systems because the copper can leave a ring too.
