I recently purchased a Pentair Intelliflo pump and Clean & Clear Plus filter. The rest of the old inground 30,000 gallon pool plumbing and solar is 1 1/2 inch. Are there any advantages or disadvantages to running 2" pipe from the pump outlet to the filter input with everything else 1 1/2 inch? This would save a couple reducers as the native size for the pump and filter are 2".

Thanks for the advice

Much of the head loss in the plumbing system is in the 90 degree fitting, many of which are on the equipment pad. I would certainly upgrade anything that you are messing with to 2" pipe, although not sure it is worth it to tear it all out and start over.

That pump is WAY too big for the plumbing if you only have a single 1.5" suction and return line. You need to make sure you limit the maximum speed it can run.
