Can I change the speed on a variable speed motor while it is running? I'm speaking about simply flipping the switch on the motor from high to low without turning off the motor. Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can change speed on a two speed pump with a manual speed switch at any time.
As it happens, switching the speed switch will turn the motor off for just an instant.
