new filter system connected thru original skimmer

We have an 18x48 above ground summer escapes pool. Haven't had it a year yet and skimmer filter pump went out. We purchased an intex krystal clear filter pump model 6357 and adapted it thru the bottom of the skimmer. We keep the skimmer basket in the skimmer but have still noticed a lot of bugs getting thru into the filter cartridge. Would putting a filter in the skimmer assist the filter system? Would it strain the motor?

Many members use skimmer socks or knee-high stockings in the skimmer basket ... try a search for "skimmer socks"

You will need to be watchful that the skimmer does not clog up too much from catching everything though.
