ok i know that no one here likes aqua smart systems. i also don't like the full concept myself. but i do how ever like the pool opening kit.(shock,algae,balance) gives me 2 months of clear water. this year i will not be getting a mineral thing but gutting mine, i have gutted the chlorine packs from year one and used 3" tabs to fill back up.(i like the auto chlorine function, and no floating thing to be in the way). my question is i dont want to go to the pool stores and pay for the kit at mark-up prices. all i have found on the internet is this frog thing that looks close. are these interchangeable?

Why not just use liquid chlorine to open? Cheaper and effective.
You should never just add products to your pool because they are in some kit. Accurately test your water and then know what needs to be adjusted.

Why don't you just test your CYA level and bring your FC level up to SLAM level with bleach ?
