DE Filter Servicing?

I'm having a tough time searching the forum, so if I'm missing a thread, my apologies.

I've got a Pentair DE filter. I do not know how often I should be backwashing, how much DE to put back in the water after backwashing and how often to clean the filters.

Again, sorry if this has been hashed many times....
 
The amount of DE to add depends on the specific filter you have. For an FNS+ 48 it is 4.8 lbs when the filter is fully cleaned out, and 80% of that after backwashing.

You want to backwash the filter when the filter pressure gauge goes up 25% above the freshly recharged filter pressure.
 
I just tore my DE filter apart today and took a lot of pictures for a tutorial ... although who knows when I will get that done and posted. If you have questions, post them up.
