pump and filter upgrade advice

I'm goin to be upgrading my pump and filter before I set up my pool this summer. Hard line plumbing is a must but I'm lookin for advice on pump and filter. I was recommended the Intex 2600 pump and sand filter. Anyone out there using this combo? Pros and cons? Would u recommend it?
Could I use my current filter and just upgrade the pump? Found a Hayward sp1580x15 on Amazon for about the same price as the 2600 Intex combo. Would this be a better route four dependability?
Also can someone recommend a thru the wall skimmer for my pool?

The Intex 2650 is a great little filter/pump combo. I wouldn't recommend using the existing filter with any larger pump.

Any of the common above ground skimmers will work on your pool.
