What kind of fitting is this??

I'm redoing my plumbing this Spring.

Can someone tell me what type of fitting I have that goes from the bottom pipe on the cartridge filter and connects into the black pipe that's in the ground? It's held on by a hose clamp - which seems weird. Is that the only thing that holds it on? Is there some kind of barb in there that pushes in to the black plastic hose??

What would I use to replace this piece if I wanted to replace it with something new??? An actual link to a new part would be VERY helpful.

I'm basically looking just for the piece that connects to the black pipe with the hose clamp.

Thanks!!

I don't think it is just a reducer.
I think that it would have barbs inside the black pipe and thus the need for the hose clamp. Not sure what this would be called though. Pretty sure you are not able to use a solvent on the black pipe to connect it to PVC.

It's 1.5 inch black poly pipe. Just Google 1.5 inch barbed poly pipe fittings for pool. PVC glue wont work on poly pipe. The fittings are barbed. It helps to warm the pipe with a heat gun or hair dryer to make it soft and pliable when removing or inserting the barbed fitting. However, don't overheat the pipe as it could melt.

You could use a 1.5" barbed x 1.5" male adaptor. Or a 1.5" barbed x 1.5" female adaptor. Or 1.5" barbed x 1.5" socket. There is a YouTube video called how to adapt poly pipe to pvc. The guy uses glue on the barbs, but that's not a good idea. He also uses a torch to heat the pipe, but that's also not a good idea. The torch is too hot and can easily overheat the pipe (It's obvious that he overheated the pipe).

Note: Regarding the glue: There are several reasons not to use glue on the barbed fitting, including:

1) PVC glue does not stick to poly pipe, not even a little bit. Therefore, it's pointless to use it for that purpose.
2) The glue fills in the spaces between the barbs, which reduces the effectiveness of the barbs.

One other safety note: He uses the torch right next to the glue and primer, which are both flammable. Not smart.
