Hello Friend,
I just empty my pool. The plaster does not look very clean. The pool was re-plaster six year ago, so the is some meat left before I do another re-plaster. I wanted to know if there is a method to clean out the pool with chemicals or machinery. I was a good pressure washer that will do the job but I do not know if this is wise. I also have a pump sprayer to go with the acid route. Is there any other choices? Finally, is it safe to leave the pool empty?
I live in Claremont California and the weather has been in the 80’s.

No, it is not safe to leave the pool empty. It's not good to leave plaster exposed and your pool structure is subject to damage if it were to rain.

Cleaning the plaster depends on what is on it. If it is metal deposits, you will need an acid to remove them. If it organic deposits, chlorine will remove them.
 
Hi and thanks for the fast respond! I truly do not know what exactly what is staining the plaster. I think is mainly organic from the leaves deposits however, I do have some ugly black area that cover the deep end. I was told by my local pool retailer that there is a product that will leave everything very clean but pool must be fool. After using the product all water must be dump. Do you know of such product?

Chlorine will remove organic stains. Just raise your chlorine level to around 25ppm and keep it there constantly and your organic stains will fade.
 
As others have said it is not safe to leave your pool empty. Do you have a main drain in your pool? If so remove the cover, there may be a hydrostatic valve or a capped pipe. If there is a capped pipe I would remove the cap until you are ready to re-fill your pool. This will allow ground water into the pool and help keep it from coming out of the ground.

Do you know if the stains showed up after you added chlorine to your pool or after that pool sat unused or not maintained?

Hello Friends,


I just finish removing the bigger pieces of debris. However, I am trying to figure out what to do with the very dark dark gray section at the bottom of the pool. I have come to believe that this dark gray section were created when I was acid washing the pool last year. I remember allowing the overflow of acid and water to sit in the very same area where the dark gray is currently showing. Do any of you think what this is? or whether it can be some how repaired?

HI!

After spending two hours rebuilding the pressure washer's carburetor, I was able to use it to clean the pool. I had some black small stains that did not come out. The green and black algae stains did not come out. I took some photos to get some feedback. Also, in the process of power washing I noticed some 3 dime size chips to the plaster. One caused by me:grrrr: the other two were a little old.
If you get a chance, please view my images. I am new at this and all input is very welcome.:cheers:

Finally, Does any one have any advice for a good plaster repair kit. I was looking at easy patch and pool patch plaster repair kit.
