New pool start up

We still have 3 LONG months before our pool install is started. Since I am an utter planning fool, would it be in my best interest to test my tap water to give me a baseline of where we are starting?

I am also wondering if I should let the PB balance the pool with the chemicals upon start up and then take it to BBB from there on my own. Would letting him add his own chemicals make BBB easier or more difficult?

You can go ahead and test your tap water. It'll be good practice.
Your vinyl liner pool will be the easiest to maintain and start up. If it were me I would just start it up myself. It's your choice. If you choose to start it up yourself we can help you through it.
