Do you always replace a drain when replastering?

When the first plaster company chipped away the old plaster around SPA drains and fittings, they broke the drain casing near the rim.

Now I am hiring a new plaster company to finished the job and they told me that I need two new drains because the old ones are chipped. Do you usually replace the drains during a re-plastering job? I don't know if this is a mistake by the first company...

I am in the middle of having my pool remodeled and it was explained to me by my pool builder that all the white plastics (drain covers, returns, etc...) have to be replaced and are included in his estimate.

Right. The drain covers are normally to be replaced. But they said that the drains (where the drain covers sit on) are chipped and need to be dug out and replaced.

It really depends on how bad they are. The first company may have messed them up beyond repair.

Can the covers be attached the way they are?

Yes, all of my quotes for replastering included new plastic. However, they tried to sell me on the pop up assemblies(which included the pop up heads). Only the sleeves needed to be replaced not the heads. The drain is the important piece to replace, depending on when the pool was built new laws require different drain covers. (Atleast that was what I was told)
