Question on pH testing

Often when you add a number of gallons of chlorine (or bleach) the pH test becomes unreliable (the indicator turns red) suggesting a falsely alkaline pH.

This week my kid may have put too much chlorine in the water. The chlorine level is testing really high. Okay fine. Now when I test the pH, the solution turns red. But how do I know if the pH is really alkaline or not?

What is "really high"?

Once FC goes above 10 ppm, the pH will read falsely high and can only be considered accurate when the FC falls back below 10 ppm.

Are you using one of the recommended test kits with the FAS-DPD chlorine test? Test and Report the FC.

I have the recommended test kit but I often use the "simple" test kit in a hurry. For ph you put in a dro of thiosulfate then 5 drops of red indicator solution.

Which recommended test kit? What pH test requires a drop of a second reagent before the red r14/r4? What is your FC?
