Pillow questions

Is it really necessary to have a pillow under the cover?
I have one now but it seems like every time it rains or snows
everything gathers unevenly on one side of the cover which
in turn puts excessive pressure on the opposite side of the
cover.
Should I just get rid of it all together?

It's not necessary. The first year I closed my pool, my pillow had a slow leak and deflated shortly after. I haven't used one since. I drain water from the cover as usual and leave a little on top to help keep the cover from cupcaking during high winds. Plus it just looks better!
