Need Pump Recommendations

I have a 26500 gal pool that currently has a single speed 2hp AO Smith motor on a hayward super 2 pump running only a 60 sq de filter. The pump seems to be on its last leg. Looking at replacing with a 2 speed but have no idea what size to replace it with. Thanks in advance.

Re: Need Pump Recomendations

Do you have a spa or any high volume water features?

If no, then any small two speed is fine. The Pentair 1 HP Superflo or Hayward MaxFlo XL are good choices. The MaxFlo also comes in a VS version if you have an interest in that.

Re: Need Pump Recomendations

Mas985 comprehended your post better than I did. Is your pump failing or just the motor? If it is the motor, then replacing with a 2-speed motor (keeping the pump wet end) might be cheapest/easiest.

It currently has a 2hp motor. Is this to much?
Probably, though until you post a model number we don't know if it is a full-rated or uprated pump.

Is it better to downsize?
Depends...if your electric rate is high then changing out the whole pump for a smaller 2-speed pump may payback fairly quick, though you may have to make plumbing changes. If your electric rate is not so high, then just changing to a 2-speed motor on your existing pump may make the most sense. Do you know what your rate is?

Re: Need Pump Recomendations

Do you know the model number of the pump too? It should be on pump housing.

Also, approximately how old is the pump? It may or may not be worth fixing the old pump depending on the age and condition. Also, a picture of the pump might help too.
