Above ground winter pool cover

Good morning!

Should a winter pool cover be tight (relatively) across the top of the pool when its closed? I live in Michigan and we get lot's of snow. I have a larger cover on it (about an extra 10 inches at least) and the "extra" length is laying inside the pool on the water line. I'm not using a pillow.

I think-We should get a pump to use over the winter, get the pillow, AND make the cover a little tighter across the top instead of it resting on the water.

I agree withe the pillow (or two) as might be required. Rain runs off before it freezes. Frozen stuff has an opportunity to thaw and run off.
